Rings (from “Beyond the Precious” exhibition)

A few months ago I saw an exhibition of Edward Burtynsky’s large scale, often jarring photographs of industrial sites and man-made landscapes. This is what inspired me and spurred me on to explore the contrast between corroded, found industrial parts and

precious materials. Usually, I tend to follow a narrative or to illustrate personal symbols. But this time, I am exploring forms and textures in an abstract spirit. With these three rings, other than to allude to current environmental issues (spills, air quality, etc.), I also wanted to see how I could challenge traditional notions of beauty and wearability.
